(verse 1)
She was taken by his smile,
a heart so young and tender.
wouldn’t know til five kids later,
the hurt that love would render.

A life of pain and heartache,
left to make it on her own.
No place to live, five mouths to feed,
she never felt so all alone.

(chorus 1)
But there were five shiny thimbles,
to make little shirts and skirts.
With scraps and rags discarded,
for Sunday’s walk to church
for Sunday’s walk to church.

(verse 2)
Pride she could not afford,
unless it was in her five.
Working for little at anything,
so they could all survive.

Never thinking of herself,
never a store bought dress.
Never a dinner out,
always self-less-ness.

(chorus 2)
And  there were five worn out  thimbles,
things to make and things to sell.
Working, struggling night and day,
‘cept for God no one to tell
‘cept for God no one to tell

(verse 3)
‘neath  tough determination,
Lay a fragile, loved crushed soul.
The only love of her life,
would never be coming home.

Thought it couldn’t get much harder,
but when her youngest nearly died,
she was looking up at rock bottom,
seemed nothing to do but cry.

(chorus 3)
But there were five tarnished thimbles,
stained with sweat and tears.
“Rise above your situation”,
a motto lived all her years
a motto lived all her years.

(verse 4)
The center of love and affection,
now grandkids and family all.
Finally time to be with,
the little faces on her wall.

But the end came so quickly,
so many hearts left with a hole.
No big estate to leave,
she left her heart and soul.

(chorus 4)
And there were five precious thimbles,
found among her things.
Leaving the perfect treasure,
inheritance fit for kings
inheritance fit for kings.

(Chorus 5)
Now there are five golden thimbles,
up in heav’s fair land.
Sowing the love of a mother,
waiting with out stretched hands.
